lucy dietrich
Lucy's work often explores her fascination with the bizarre. Concerned with capturing the transience of fantastical simulated environments, the imagery she chooses to depict is derived from both the subconscious and memory, often becoming intertwined in the artistic process. Lucy enjoys playing with the orientation and arrangement, frequently making use of the negative space of the substrate. She finds this to be an opportunity to convey further a sense of separation and isolation within her work, adding to the underlying surrealist narratives she is constructing. Lucy has found that in an age where we are constantly bombarded with information, fabricating a dream-like reality becomes more appealing, and working intuitively allows the physical process of creating to exist as meditation. Lucy's practice involves printmaking, watercolor and graphite drawings, and collage, often favoring monochromatic or desaturated color pallets. She tends to utilize mediums that provide her with optimal control over her compositions, working very tight and detailed in her illustrative style.
For this class exhibition, Lucy’s work responds to Rhonda Lavonda Yolanda Chiffonda (1995) by Beverly Semmes!
